Spike Jonze Made a Surprise ‘Music Video’ for Karen O

On Sunday we made a one-act play for my friend Humberto’s company, Opening Ceremony. The idea was to do a play instead of a regular fashion show during Fashion Week, and, miraculously, we were able to do it at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. (Thank you, Peter Gelb and everyone at the Met!) Also, this week my dear friend Karen is putting out her first solo album of precious, personal love and heartache gems titled Crush Songs. They are songs made so intimately and spontaneously alone in her bedroom a few years ago that they feel more like unguarded whispers from her heart than a traditionally produced album. So on Sunday, during a ten-minute break as we were rehearsing and lighting at the Met, we made a very impromptu “music video” for Karen in the spirit of her album. It just seemed like if you have the Opera House, that song, and Elle Fanning together, you shouldn’t let the opportunity go by. So we made this as a surprise gift for Karen to congratulate her on her album. She is going to see this for the first time as you do. I hope you enjoy.

The Weeknd releases music video for “Often”

Often” has been lauded by the likes of MTV, Stereogum, Revolt, Buzzfeed, Hypetrak and more and is just a taste of what’s to come.  Directed by Sam Pilling, we go back to a familiar setting.. hotel rooms with beautiful naked women. The Weeknd’s recent features, on Ariana Grande and Ty Dolla $ign secure’s his spot on the radio as one of the hottest acts right now.

the link above has info on his tour stops in SF come October.

This new Haim video is a weird one. It features Vanessa Bayer as a 90’s talk show host with special appearances by Ke$ha, Grimes, A$AP Rocky, and Ezra Koening. Just go with it.

Real Estate's new video for “Had to Hear” is full of low-key vibes because duh.

Quite a day for music videos. We’ve also got a new Mac DeMarco vid for “Chamber of Reflection” featuring Homer Simpson with boobs wandering around Brooklyn, waiting for the G train, passing out in the grass. We’ve all been there.

After playing Big Sur, Mac will be coming back to the Central Coast in November!

Tycho premieres music video for ‘See’

Groovy visuals for Tame Impala’s first single “Elephant” from their new LP ‘Lonerism’.

I just caught these Baltimore fellas live the other night at the Independent in SF. It was a sold out show since some time back, which initially surprised me, as I didn’t realize how popular these indie synthpoppers were. On top of that, their fans all seem to be extremely fanatical about…

starting to hit up all my health insurance options since i just have a couple months left.

Initially, I wasn’t too into this song when I clicked play. I figured it’d be another more mainstream rap video about partying and “hoes”, especially with the title of the track. Also, there isn’t too much of a stand out melody or groundbreaking beat on this. But it’s one of those tracks…

once again, lupe fiasco keeping it real in hip hop

This video and the flow in the song are dope, so I had to share. Atlanta rapper Killer Mike dropped this art inspired video today with Scar on chorus vocals. Untitled is off Killer Mike’s album R.A.P. Music. The video has them reproducing a bunch of Caravaggio paintings. Paintings and painters are referenced a multitude of times in the verses, so it only fits. I don’t usually associate fine art with rap music videos, but mad props for making it work!

Perfect! CocoRosie released their video for brand new single We Are On Fire today, and I just caught them live last night at the Regency in San Francisco! The sister duo is one of the most unique acts I’ve caught live so far. Their music is such an eccentric mix of dark trip hop, jazz,…

Sister Crayon released TWO new videos over the weekend! The Sacramento indie band has been receiving more and more buzz lately with many great releases and incredible covers. Here’s Anti-Psalm, followed by Souls of Gold, both of which are really great, chill indie pop tunes off their debut album Bellow. The super slow-mo video for Anti-Psalm is awesome.

looks and sounds good.
