GREETINGS!

Hope all is wonderful with you. We over here at Unified Field Collective, who oversee Fleet Foxes operations, are so pleased to announce the inaugural issue of our arts and lit journal, The Unified Field. As subscribers to the FF list, we appreciate your spirit and support greatly. There are a limited number of copies available, so we wanted to let you know before the majority.

ENTER THE UNIFIED FIELD
The Unified Field is an arts and lit journal published in limited editions with each issue uniting a wide array of contributors under an overarching theme. The inaugural issue on transition features 60 full color pages and includes:

A special 10” pressing on crystal clear vinyl with rare tracks from:
Robin Pecknold / Bonnie “Prince” Billy / Department of Eagles / Amen Dunes & more.
Damien Echols of the West Memphis 3, just weeks following his release after over 18 years on death row penned a journal entry reflecting his thoughts during such a drastic shift in reality.
Author, editor and activist Gloria Steinem has shared a portion of her newest, unreleased book.
Renowned photographer Autumn de Wilde captured intimate portraits of adolescence.
This, plus content from over 35 additional writers, artists, musicians and more resides within this first issue.
Proceeds will be donated to 826 National, a writing, publishing and tutoring non-profit organization serving kids from 6-18.
Where to find it…
The Unified Field is limited edition, and each is hand-numbered. On September 18th, just 500 copies will be available at select record stores and shops worldwide. However, a select amount are available NOW for pre-order at www.unifiedfieldcollective.com.

 With gratitude,
 UF

Woodsist Records, run by the band Woods, brings out their stacked roster and a few friends for their annual festival at the Henry Miller Library

As part of Philip Glass’ Days and Nights festival, this very special evening will feature solo performances and collaborations between Joanna Newsom, Philip Glass and Tim Fain.  The event is a benefit for the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur to cover a massive upgrade project.

More about the Henry Miller Library:

In 1981, Emil White founded the Henry Miller Memorial Library in honor of his friend Henry Miller. Three decades later, thanks to the help of countless artists, musicians, and supporters the once sleepy bookstore/gallery has become one of the most innovative and awe-inspiring places in the world.

But the the place is in jeopardy. Federally-mandated health and safety requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, requires upgrades that will cost a lot more than what the Library currently has in its savings. Proper plans for the required upgrades have been filed and, pending approval and FUNDING,
construction will start this Fall.

HMML has received permission to host an abbreviated 2012 (June - October) performance season Lucinda Williams, Jenny Lewis,  Woodsist Festival, Grandaddy, plus more to be announced very soon will perform @ HMML this season.

The impact of any donation made at this time will be immediate and meaningful:
it will ensure the long-term survival of the Henry Miller Memorial Library.

Video: Band of Horses Big Sur Mini-Doc

It’s been all quiet on the Band of Horses front this year so far, as members Tyler Ramsey and Ryan Monroe have recent solo projects kicking around and promotion behind 2010’s Infinite Arms seems to have slowed down. Perhaps a new record is in the works, but in the meantime, any fan will want to check out this behind-the-scenes look at the North/South Carolina group’s visit to Big Sur, CA that surfaced this week. While the 22-minute featurette centers around and includes live footage from their set at the landmark Henry Miller Library, the best part is a pair of intimate performances filmed alongside Beach Boy Al Jardine at his legendary Red Barn Recording Studio. Another standout is the gorgeously shot take away-style version of “Neighbor,” sung in the dark by torchlight. Enjoy the full mini-doc above.

I had tix to this show, but ended up taking a trip out to portland. such a bummer they went to fucking waste.

Fleet Foxes recorded live on 9/11/11 at Henry Miller Library in Big Sur, CA will air tonight at 9pm ET on Sirius XMU.
